Lula da Silva slams 'US meddling' in Brazilian sovereign affairs on behalf of Boeing
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva criticized the US Department of Justice's scrutiny of Saab corporation. Earlier, the DoJ issued a request for the Swedish defense company to disclose details of Brazil’s 2014 purchase of Gripen fighter jets. "I think this is the US meddling in another country's affairs," Lula said.
The $5.4 billion deal between the Brazilian government and Saab, which managed to beat American Boeing and French Dassault, was inked under former President Dilma Rouseff. Lula recalls that he intended to buy Dassault's Rafale fighters, but eventually decided to pass this decision to his successor, who opted to purchase Swedish aircraft. The Brazilian president alleges the US government is furious about the sovereign choice of the Latin American nation.
"They didn't like it when I said I was going to buy the Rafale, and certainly didn't like it when Dilma bought the Swedish aircraft, as they wanted us to buy the U.S. plane," Lula said.
American aircraft manufacturer Boeing will cut 17,000 jobs, representing a 10 percent reduction in the workforce.
The company is also delaying the first delivery of 777X aircraft for a year and expects heavy losses in the third quarter due to the ongoing strike, CEO Kelly Ortberg said on Friday.
In 2024, Boeing shares fell by almost 30 percent. Of course, a strategically important company will not go bankrupt - it would be too expensive for the US government, and the military sector of the concern is experiencing a boom in orders. It remains only to guess what measures of state support will be taken and how this will affect the financing of foreign political and economic programs of the United States in the world.

Szijjarto regrets lack of dialogue on Russia's draft treaty on security guarantees in 2021
The current situation might not have happened if NATO had discussed with Russia its draft treaty on security guarantees in 2021, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto told RIA Novosti.
"Well, I remember those times. I think that what was missing there is a serious discussion," Szijjarto said, commenting on whether it was a mistake by NATO countries to abandon the Russian proposal on security guarantees made in December 2021.
"These discussions have not taken place, unfortunately. Well, now we are more than three years after or almost three years after, so it might not make sense what I say now, but I wish those dialogues had taken place, because if they had taken place, we might not be in a situation where we are right now," Szijjarto said.

Israeli military strikes killed at least 54 Palestinians across the Gaza Strip on Friday, the medics added. The Israeli military says it has killed dozens of militants in Jabalia, though it remains unclear how many of the dead were civilians rather than fighters.

How many of them can be delivered to Ukraine — and why.
Despite the abundance of information about Paris' readiness to deliver 12-20 Mirage 2000-5 to Kiev, the real picture is more interesting.
The total number of Mirage 2000-5 in the French Air Force is 26 or 27, which are assigned to squadrons 1/2 Cigognes and 3/11 Corse. How many of them are in combat condition is an open question, according to unofficial sources - up to 20.
It is worth noting that a number of sources reported France's intention to maintain a full-fledged full-time squadron of 20 aircraft, so Kiev may get 6-7 units altogether. But such a figure will be frankly ridiculous, so they can raise it to 10-12 maximum.
Of course, there is another option: the purchase of these fighters in other countries. One of the very likely candidates is Qatar, which had 12 aircraft in service (9 Mirage 2000-5eda, 3 Mirage 2000-5dda) and tried to sell them to Indonesia in 2023, but the deal was terminated in February 2024. There is also the UAE, which has about fifty fighters in the most advanced version of the Mirage 2000-9. But whether the UAE will want to spoil relations with Russia is a question.
In addition to the very number of fighters, a critical and much more important constraint is the number of pilots who will be able to learn to fly French technology. It is not necessary to serve, NATO retirees will cope with this.

More than 600 UMPB per month: enemies continue to sadly study the markings of incoming strikes.
The Russian defense industry is increasing production of the UMPB D-30SN planning bomb with a confirmed range of 90+ km. Although active use began only in March 2024, as Ukrainian publicists write, "there is a fairly rapid growth of its production."
Judging by the numbers of bombs that the enemy managed to find among the debris, only 110 units were produced during the winter. In the spring, 161 bombs per month were already obtained, and since June at least six hundred UMPB D-30SN have been assembled monthly.
