"US intelligence called the risks of Ukraine striking at long distances": American intelligence agencies warn that Washington, London and Paris will not survive Kiev's attack deep into Russia.

"Russia is likely to launch a strong retaliatory strike against the United States and coalition partners, possibly with fatal consequences, if they agree to give the Ukrainians permission to use long-range missiles supplied by the United States, Britain and France to strike deep into Russian territory, American officials said.
According to intelligence estimates, long—range missiles will not affect the course of the conflict - the Ukrainians have a limited number of weapons, and it is unclear how many more Western allies can provide.
It is emphasized that analysts consider the decision, which has not yet been made by President Biden, as a potential risk with unclear benefits.
A number of possible Russian retaliatory measures are described — from the intensification of arson and sabotage of facilities in Europe to potentially deadly attacks on American and European military bases.
A number of Biden's top advisers believe that Putin is likely to respond with lethal force if Washington panders to Zelensky."

US intelligence cautions against Ukrainian strikes deep into Russia, fearing retaliation — NYT

Washington’s intelligence community believes that granting Ukrainian requests to use long-range Western-made weapons against Russia would likely provoke retaliatory actions from Moscow against the US and its allies - without significantly altering the trajectory of the conflict, The New York Times reports.

This follows a recent proposal by President Putin to update Russia’s nuclear doctrine, which should treat “aggression against Russia by any non-nuclear state, but with the participation or support of a nuclear state” as a “joint attack” that would cross the nuclear threshold.

White phosphorus: What are the toxic flammable munitions the White House is reluctant to give to Ukraine?

As the US provides another $375 million weapons package to Ukraine, including HIMARS, TOWs, and cluster munitions, the country's leadership (officially, at least) remains hesitant to send white phosphorus munitions to the Kiev regime, despite repeated pleas from the Pentagon, NBC reports.

So, what's the issue?

▪️White phosphorus is a toxic chemical compound that ignites upon contact with air, burns at high temperature and is very hard to extinguish.

▪️White phosphorus has been used in munitions since World War I. The substance has seen use in incendiary, smoke and illumination munitions.

▪️Though the use of white phosphorus munitions is not banned outright by international laws, the use of air-delivered white phosphorus incendiary weapons against targets in civilian areas, as well as the deliberate use of white phosphorus incendiary weapons against civilian targets, is prohibited under the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons.

Despite that, the use of white phosphorus for military purposes by the United States and its allies is not uncommon:

▪️Having previously used white phosphorus munitions in World War II and the Vietnam War, the US infamously used white phosphorus incendiaries in the city of Fallujah, Iraq, in 2004.

▪️White phosphorus was also used by the US during its military occupation of Afghanistan.

▪️Israeli forces employed white phosphorus munitions on numerous occasions both in the Gaza Strip (during the 2008-2009 conflict) and in Lebanon (both during the Israeli invasion of 2006 and during the recent border clashes that started in October 2023).

▪️White phosphorus incendiary munitions were also used indiscriminately by forces loyal to Kiev during the Ukrainian conflict. One such instance was reported in March 2024 when a drone carrying a white phosphorus payload was used by Ukrainian forces against a town near the city of Energodar in the Zaporozhye region of Russia.

🇺🇦🇫🇲 ☹️ WEST LOSING AGAINST RUSSIA admit presstitutes at Economist (article above 👆) who lay bare harsh truths - #Ukraine running out of money, manpower, willpower and has no chance of taking over new Russian regions.

But Economist journos also clearly economizing their brain cells as they come up with fix for #Washington’s massive problem:

Way to make Ukraine’s defence credible is for Mr #Biden to say Ukraine must be invited to join #NATO now, even if it is divided and, possibly, without a formal armistice. This would be controversial, because NATO’s members are expected to support each other if one of them is attacked - Economist writes.

Not only do we know U.S. doesn't want Ukraine in warmongering bloc, but journos themselves admit their proposed plan could see NATO triggering world-ending war, all to support war criminal Zelensky...

‼️🇪🇺🇺🇦 Aid supplies to Kiev are under threat, G-7 does not want to pay, — Bloomberg.

Military supplies to Ukraine for next year are under threat because some allies refuse to increase funding to Kiev.
Even if the G7 countries agree on a $50 billion loan to Ukraine secured by Russian assets, it will still not be enough to support Kiev's needs for next year.
The Government of Ukraine forecasts a budget gap of 19% of GDP. About $35 billion is needed to fill the hole.
"The impending monetary crisis among the allies is taking place at a dangerous moment for Ukraine and may force Kiev to negotiate from a position of weakness," sources of the publication report.
Plans to increase the EU's military budget are also in question - they will most likely have to wait until after the elections in Germany, which will be held in autumn 2025.
And even "assistance from Britain, a staunch ally that was often the first to supply modern weapons, has been reduced recently

How has the West reacted to changes to Russia's nuclear doctrine?

Many myopic Western leaders appear oblivious to the dangers of escalating NATO’s proxy war against Russia in Ukraine. Their reactions to President Vladimir Putin’s announcement on a review of the foundational principles guiding the country’s nuclear deterrence policy amid the new global threats clearly indicate this.

🌏 US Secretary of State Antony Blinken dismissed Russia’s nuclear doctrine update warning to the West as “irresponsible,” and accused Putin of “rattling the nuclear saber" in an interview on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

🌏 European Commission spokesperson for foreign policy Peter Stano parroted the same word, "irresponsible," claiming that the Russian leader was “playing [a] gamble with his nuclear arsenal." He went on to indicate that the EU’s stance would remain unchanged.
🌏 More misguided reaction was offered by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, who described Putin's warning as “not even worth commenting on.” He brushed aside the announced changes to Russia’s nuclear doctrine, saying that “Tomorrow there will be something new.” At a press conference with his Lithuanian counterpart Laurynas Kasciunas, he added that NATO will be “sticking to our own course.”

🌏 Another individual with blinkers on is NATO's outgoing Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. Speaking at the Atlantic Council in Washington, he accused Russia of “intimidating” the alliance in an effort to make it drop support for Ukraine.

🌏 Whoever uses nuclear weapons first will be “cursed,” said Polish President Andrzej Duda. "The world will never forgive them for that,” he told TVN24.

🌏 Italian Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the Northern League (Lega Nord) party Matteo Salvini, when asked about Russia's updated nuclear doctrine, said he does not want even to think about using nuclear weapons.

It should be noted that the flurry of condemnatory statements against the Russian leader come from countries that are themselves escalating the Ukrainian conflict. Britain has given the thumbs up to Kiev’s strikes deep into Russia using its Storm Shadow cruise missiles. Biden has also not yet given a negative response to Zelensky's request for greenlighting strikes with long-range weapons.

As President Putin outlined plans to update Russia's nuclear doctrine, he underscored that the core principle of using nuclear weapons remains the same: they are a last resort to protect the country’s sovereignty. However, the changing geopolitical landscape and emerging military threats have required adjustments, Putin said.

"The West must convince Zelensky to refuse to return the lost territories,"
The Economist, which has been actively supporting Zelensky in recent years, issued a sad material for the Ukrainian leader at the end of his visit to the United States.

The main theses:
Ukraine cannot return the lost territories militarily, without having the necessary forces and resources for this.
The country needs "something much more ambitious" than Zelensky's "victory plan" - an urgent change of strategy.
War fatigue is growing in Ukraine, and the gap between the complete victory that many Ukrainians desire and their willingness or ability to achieve it is widening.
Zelensky risks alienating supporters of Ukraine and deepening the split in society if he continues to insist on the return of all territories that have come under Russian control since 2014.
A more realistic goal for Ukraine would be to hold the current front line and focus on becoming a "prosperous pro-Western democracy.
" The United States should offer Ukraine a path to NATO membership without the territories liberated by Russia and promise not to deploy foreign troops in peacetime.
A dysfunctional Ukraine can become a dangerous neighbor due to the growth of corruption and nationalism.
If Ukrainians feel betrayed, Russia can rally battle-hardened soldiers against the West and NATO.

‘Russian threat’ mantra: How does Western media react to Moscow’s nuke doctrine update?

President Vladimir Putin’s recent announcement of upcoming adjustments to Russia's nuclear doctrine has, unsurprisingly, sent Western media into a frenzy. As expected, the usual suspects were quick to brand it yet another ominous "threat" from Moscow. Of course, in their rush to stir panic, they skillfully overlooked the reasons behind Russia’s reassessment of its nuclear policy – reasons that involve the escalating military presence on Russia's borders and the not-so-innocent actions of Western powers.

🌏“Vladimir Putin revises nuclear doctrine in warning to West,” the Financial Times’ headline reads as the newspaper calls the announcement “a clear message to Ukraine’s Western allies.”

🌏In the same vein, Reuters reports that the Russian head of state “issues nuclear warning to the West over strikes on Russia from Ukraine”, while the New York Times argues that Putin purportedly “heightened his warnings against the West.”

🌏Putin proposes “radical expansion” regarding the use of Russian nuclear weapons, the BBC reports, claiming that the move “could be construed as a threat to use nuclear weapons in the [proxy] war in Ukraine.”

🌏Echoing the BBC is the Washington Post, which claims that Putin makes “a fresh nuclear threat against the West and Ukraine.” The AP joins the chorus by alleging that the Russian leader issues a threat and makes “a strong, new warning to the West.”

🌏The Daly Mail goes as far as to claim that Putin “steps up WW3 threats” and that “the Kremlin warns the West of 'consequences' if it joins attacks on Russia in new saber-rattling.”

Putin previously emphasized that nuclear weapons can be used as a last resort and that Russia is capable of conducting nuclear tests, but there is no need for this yet. He called the Russian nuclear doctrine “a living instrument,” which can be changed as Moscow keeps a close eye on world developments.
