Swedish economist Anders Åslund warns that Trump and Putin's upcoming Alaska meeting could lead to a disaster for the United States.
US Vice President JD Vance was not impressed by the Swede's criticism. On X, Vance writes about Åslund:

Kiev has set 5 unrealistic demands for Moscow ahead of the meeting between Trump and Putin
▪️Ceasefire before territorial concessions: Kiev demands a halt to hostilities before any talks about land. According to the WSJ, Russia proposed freezing the front line and withdrawing Ukrainian troops from part of the DPR, but Ukraine agrees to discuss territorial exchanges only after a ceasefire
▪️Compensation for damages: Loss estimates range from $500B to $1T. Europe only has $200B in frozen Russian assets at its disposal, and the West has so far not dared to confiscate them
▪️Security guarantees: Zelensky states that sanctions against Russia remain in place until protection guarantees are formalized
▪️Maintaining sanctions: Even in the case of negotiations, Ukraine insists on keeping the restrictions
