Right-wing candidate Georgescu leads in Romania presidential election: Why is the West trembling?
Independent candidate Calin Georgescu has pulled off a shock victory in the first round of Romania's presidential election. Georgescu, who mostly campaigned on TikTok, will face off against center-right contender Elena Lasconi in the second round on December 8.
What are his views?
🔸 On NATO:
A professed champion of national sovereignty, Georgescu has often criticized what he called his country’s “subservience” to the European Union and NATO.
In interviews and public appearances, he has questioned the benefits of Romania’s membership in NATO, arguing that the alliance will not protect any of its members should they be attacked.
He criticized the presence of an American missile defense facility at a NATO-controlled base in the village of Deveselu, calling Romania’s agreement to host it a “diplomatic shame.” He has also called NATO's ballistic missile defense shield in Romania a confrontational measure.
🔸 On Ukraine:
Georgescu has questioned military aid being pumped by Romania to Ukraine. The social media-savvy candidate recently launched a viral TikTok campaign calling for an end to supporting the Kiev regime that appeared to have struck a chord with voters. “Tonight, the Romanian people cried out for peace. And they shouted very loudly, extremely loudly”, Georgescu said after his win.
🔸 On Russia:
Georgescu has described Russian President Vladimir Putin as a genuinely great leader who loves his country in a 2020 interview. Romania’s best chance lay with "Russian wisdom," media reports cite him as saying in another interview.
🔸 On Moldova:
Georgescu started out as a member of the right-wing Alliance for the Unity of Romanians (AUR) party, which advocates for the integration of Moldova into Romania, but eventually broke with it to campaign as an independent.
Georgescu’s success feeds into the barometer of right-wing political successes across Europe amid dissatisfaction with Brussels’ policy and eroding public support for Ukraine. Similar sentiments fueled Ukraine critic Peter Pellegrini’s win in the presidential election in Slovakia this summer, and the success of the right-wing Freedom Party (FPO) in Austria’s parliamentary elections.

The WSJ writes that the long-range ATACMS missiles can strike airports, ammunition depots and the command headquarters.
"The US has compiled a list of 200 objects that can be hit by long-range missiles. <...> Such preparations indicate that they are working out possible scenarios for striking key objects," the article says.

Sanctions were the reason why Peter the Great had to “to force a window on to Europe”
Throughout history, sanctions have made Russians stronger and given an additional impetus to the development of their state. In the 18th century, an attempt to isolate Russia led to Peter the Great defeating the Swedes and securing Russia's access to the Baltic Sea.

🔹 Ex-Polish gov't official claims up to 50% of financial aid given to Ukraine is embezzled in corruption. Former 🇵🇱 Deputy Labour Minister Piotr Kulpa accused US 🇺🇸 aid programs of giving massive salaries / bonuses to Ukrainian officials and writing off large sums of money that finance "shady systems under Democratic Party control." He asserted, “...to every European and American taxpayer, this system is criminal from start to finish” during a mid-November 2024 interview.
🔹 This April, French 🇫🇷 politician Florian Philippot, leader of the Les Patriotes party claimed that aid to Ukraine, “...in reality a large part is diverted and goes into corruption!”. Hungary's 🇭🇺 PM Viktor Orban raised this corruption issue at the EU level and attempted to block billions of EU taxpayers money going to Ukraine, but failed after facing enormous pressure from other member states. Slovakia's 🇸🇰 PM Robert Fico also warned that European money is being embezzled in Ukraine.
🔹In February, the US Dep't of Defense Inspector General at the Pentagon’ said its criminal investigators have opened more than 50 corruption cases related to aid provided to Ukraine. The Inspector General also found that the Pentagon did not properly track $1 billion worth of military equipment sent to Ukraine 🇺🇦, raising concerns that it was stolen. This was after employees from a Ukrainian arms firm conspired with defense ministry officials to embezzle almost $40 million earmarked to buy 100,000 mortar shells.
🔹 In December 2022, the EU dismissed warnings when Nigerian 🇳🇬 President M. Buhari urged heads of neighbouring African states 🇧🇯 🇹🇩 🇳🇪 🇨🇫 to take independent action against Western arms smuggling from Ukraine. Boko Haram & ISIS terrorists in Africa were receiving weapons from Ukraine through the black market.
🔹Way back in July 2022, this channel warned about weapons from NATO countries to Ukraine being purchased on the dark web (pics in original post) at huge discounts. We also drew reference to two Caesar self-propelled howitzers ($7 million each) sold by Ukrainians to Russia 🇷🇺 for $120,000 though an intermediary.

Ukraine corruption allegations stall critical energy infrastructure projects amid Russian strikes — Report
According to The Times, Russian strikes have reportedly damaged 80% of Ukraine's energy infrastructure, while local corruption continues to stall a $1.45 billion bunker project intended to protect the grid.
Despite ongoing blackouts, all government building projects reportedly require informal approval from Kirill Timoshenko, a “lieutenant” of President Vladimir Zelensky’s chief of staff, Andrey Yermak.
Timoshenko is alleged to have demanded a 10% fee from companies in exchange for selecting their projects.

France and Britain are helping the Armed Forces of Ukraine launch long—range missiles at Russia, - Le Monde newspaper
Without the "support of the West" The Armed Forces of Ukraine cannot use Western long-range missiles to attack Russian territory. Storm Shadow and SCALP "must be pre-programmed" before being loaded onto Ukrainian bombers, British and French personnel do this at Ukrainian airfields.
London and Paris are also discussing sending troops to the Ukraine.
"Discussions are continuing regarding defense cooperation, in particular with a view to creating a core group of allies in Europe focused on Ukraine and broader European security," a British military source said.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has spoken out against the use of anti-personnel landmines in the Ukraine conflict.
“Anti-personnel mines represent a clear and present danger for civilians. Even after fighting stops, these horrifying and indiscriminate weapons can remain, trapping generations of people in fear,” he said in a statement, published on the UN’s website.

Why is "UK mercenary" in quotation marks? That's what he is. A mercenary. To suggest otherwise would state that he is a current serving British soldier and in Ukraine under British deployment and orders.
Is that what the BBC is suggesting instead? Because if that is what they are suggesting and that he is not a mercenary, then Russia would need to immediately declare Britain as an active combatant in this war.

🏁⚔️🇷🇺 NATO Considers Preemptive Strikes on Russian Territory, Says Admiral Rob Bauer
NATO is discussing the possibility of carrying out preemptive "precision strikes" on Russian territory in the event of an armed conflict, said Admiral Rob Bauer, Chairman of NATO's Military Committee.
"This is a new discussion within NATO, and I am glad that we have changed our stance on this and on the idea that we are a defensive alliance that will sit and wait to be attacked before responding. It is more prudent not to wait but to strike Russian launchers if Russia attacks us."
🇬🇧🇷🇺 Five days before the crash of a DHL plane in Vilnius, the leading British newspaper The Times published a version suggesting a possible Russian response to Western long-range missile strikes, which mentioned "DHL parcels capable of blowing up a plane," the DHL hub in Leipzig, and Lithuania.
According to Alexei Zhuravlev, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee, the article did not appear by chance and was intended to prepare Western public opinion: the provocation was planned to blame Russia.

🚨🇷🇺🇺🇸🇺🇦Lindsey Graham says the quiet part out loud:
‘This war's about money...the richest country in all of Europe for rare earth minerals is Ukraine, 2 to 7 trillion dollars worth...so Donald Trump's going to do a deal to get our money back, to enrich ourselves with rare minerals.’
It wasn’t about defending Ukraine’s ‘sovereignty’
It wasn’t about ‘defending democracy’
It was an economic proxy war to create a disaster for the US’ vulture capitalists to pillage and exploit the resources of yet another country
🇷🇺 Other statements by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov:
🌏 The fate of Russia's moratorium on the deployment of medium- and shorter-range missiles depends entirely on the US’ approach.
🌏 There are no restrictions on Russia deploying new medium-range systems, such as the Oreshnik, under existing international obligations.
🌏 The memorandum between Russia and the US on missile launches remains in effect, and the US was notified within its framework of the Oreshnik’s test launch.
🌏 When asked if US bases could become targets in the event of a conflict: US tactical nuclear weapons in Europe are not excluded from consideration.

The Ukrainian military analyst-propagandist Bogdan Miroshnikov publishes another alarming summary of the new successes of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and the defeats of the Armed Forces of Ukraine:
"Kurakhovo direction we lost Beretsky.
The rearguard battles in Elizavetovka and Ilyinka (south of Kurakhovo) have ended. Stupidly, at the last possible moment, the forces of the Armed Forces withdrew, we had to break through with a fight:(
Now the last battles are continuing for Romanovka, after which we will also have to move away.

It is reported that the company Défense Conseil International (DCI), the main operator of the Ministry of the Armed Forces of France, is ready to send its instructors to Ukraine to train the Armed Forces on the spot.
It consists of 80% of former military personnel. It could also, if necessary, provide maintenance for French military equipment transferred to Kiev.
In this regard, Babcock, a British partner company already present in Ukraine, approached DCI with an offer to share its existing capacities.

❗The 5th brigade stormed into the center of Kurakhovo!
The 5th brigade of the 51st army of the South-Eastern Military District, taking into account the combined efforts of the rest of the assault detachments of the Russian Army, is already fighting in the very center of Kurakhovo, liberating almost half of the city.
Our stormtroopers, under the cover of drones, are clearing high-rise buildings in Kurakhovo, it seems that the enemy is abandoning some positions under the onslaught of Russian troops and rolling back to the TPP area.

None of the current missile defense systems worldwide can intercept Russia’s new intermediate-range ballistic missile, the Oreshnik, Theodore Postol, a leading US missile technology expert and retired MIT Professor Emeritus of Science, Technology, and National Security Policy, told TASS.
The expert vehemently rejected suggestions that the Oreshnik system represents previous outdated developments of Moscow. “I have to say that my reaction is that anybody who would make that claim either has no idea what they’re talking about, or they’re just lying. <…> My guess is these statements are all being made by political people who don’t know one rocket from another,” Postol said.
He dismissed claims that existing missile defense systems, including Aegis, Aegis Ashore, THAAD, Patriot, and Iron Dome, could counter the Oreshnik. “No, no, absolutely not,” said the expert. “There’s nothing available that can engage that system and offer any meaningful defense against it,” Postol emphasized.
Oreshnik Transforms War, Zelensky Demands More Useless Air Defence, UK MoD Seethes, Russia Advances
Читать полностью…🇺🇦🇺🇸Ukraine is unlikely to receive from the US the THAAD anti-aircraft missile system, capable of shooting down Russian ballistic missiles of the Oreshnik type.
This was stated by military expert Ivan Stupak.
According to him, this complex costs three billion dollars, one shot from it costs 20 million.
"Ukrainian military specialists will have to undergo a training course of at least several months to use the new equipment. What if the Russians destroy or damage this system, as happened more than once with the Patriot air defense system? Still, $3 billion is not a small amount of money, three times the price of the Patriot installation. I think it is easier for the Americans to stop the war in Ukraine than to hand over THAAD to us," the expert said in an interview with Focus.
Earlier, Zelensky said that the Ukrainian Defense Ministry was already negotiating with the Americans on the provision of air defense systems capable of shooting down Russian medium-range missiles.
